Is 6 months old a safe age to allow a puppy to climb stairs, or should I wait a bit longer? At the moment I have to carry him up and down the stairs. This tiny golden retriever has serious issues with these steps – in fact, with a single step. One leg goes up, but another one is stuck, so the poor little fellow can't move. Don't worry, pup, be brave, and you will overcome this obstacle! He has climbed up the stairs to the 2nd floor so I can keep him with me while I am getting dressed and ready for the day, but I always carry him back down. I guess when he's too heavy for me to carry back down, I'll just have to leave him downstairs. I'd love to hear how everybody else deals with their puppy and stairs. Thanks! Climbing stairs at his age can play havoc with his joints and hips. He needs to be 6 months at least before he attempts to climb stairs - then there'll be no stopping him!
