If your puppy or dog has any of the above signs of "what is not normal", do be sure to take them for a checkup.

When do boxer puppies open their eyes. Some puppies will take a day to open the eyes while others will take 3-4 days. The eyes will have a bluish color to them at first and then change to their adult color over time. If the eyes appear white or solid blue, take the puppy to the veterinarian right away. The ears open at 14-17 days of age. They should hear clearly by 4 weeks of age. On average, puppies open their eyes 12 – 16 days after birth. But this is the average time, so sometimes puppies may open their eyes a day or two earlier or later than that. It depends on the individual puppy. Sometimes in one litter, one puppy may open his eyes after 9 days, while another may open his after 14 days, and yet another will open. At 3 weeks of age, not only will boxer puppies have doubled in size, but their eyes will begin to open and their hearing will greatly improve. At this time they will begin to play with litter-mates. At 4 weeks, boxer puppies can be introduced to wet commercial food, although they will still nurse as well. When puppies open their eyes, this is just the first step in the beginning of other senses, including hearing. A puppy's ears will begin to "open" soon after their eyes, and both their vision and hearing will continue to improve. When puppies open their eyes and ears, the next step is usually beginning to walk.

Newborn puppies cannot support their weight for the first two weeks of life, so they crawl around on their bellies, paddling and pushing with their legs and building strength. Most puppies will start to open their eyes between one and two weeks after birth. At that point, your puppy’s central nervous system, optical nerves, and eyes are all fully developed. One thing to keep in mind—your puppy should open their eyes on their own. You might be tempted to help them along, but you should let the process unfold.

If a puppy does not open its eyes on its own within 7-14 days, it is best to seek the care of a general veterinarian immediately. Signs of problems with the puppies eyes are easily noticeable and are bulging or swelling directly underneath the eyes. Corneal dystrophy isn't uncommon in dogs, including the boxer. This inherited condition may affect any of the cornea's layers in both eyes. In epithelial corneal dystrophy, the formation of the outer layer's cells are affected; vision is still normal, though the cornea may have white or gray rings on the cornea. The question is, when do puppies open their eyes and start this process. The answer is somewhere between seven days to two weeks after birth. - That even if you get a 2-4 year old dog who has previously not had any problems being alone home, Pups open their eyes between eight to fourteen days.
