My grandad has adopted an 8 year old Akita, we were told by the dogs home he used to live on the streets, he is gernally very very well behaved, calm and friendly but my grandad is having issues with him walking on a lead - he becomes aggressive when other dogs approach him and will not listen to my grandad and becomes very difficult to hold. My Akita is now 6 months old and still somewhat shy. She has attended 8 weeks of puppy classes, 3 weeks of conformation training, and about to start obd. training. I walk her every day and take her on field trips to pet stores, bus stops, and a couple of dog shows. My puppy was the same way with a harness. TBH sometimes I would put it on her to get a break from her craziness. But she eventually got used to it after a couple weeks. But still, even now at 2 years old, when I first put it on her she becomes super relaxed and calm. But after about a minute she's back to her normal self.
