We now have a full pedigree labrador bitch who as just come into her first season but she will be spayed at the first opportunity so there will be no chance of it happening again. Reply DJ December 21, 2016 at 11:12 am

When will my labrador puppy come into season. The term "in season" refers to the days when an unaltered female dog experiences menstrual flow and fertility. The cycle lasts about twenty-one days, with days seven to fifteen being the time when the dog is most fertile. Maisie is in season (as some of you prob read on the other thread). She has been bleeding for 16 days so far, but on day 13 she didn't bleed for a day so we thought it was done and then she bled on Saturday, and then yesterday and most of today she didn't bleed at all but then tonight she has again. My Miniature Schnauzer puppy came into her first season early at just shy of 6 months and it lasted just over 5 weeks - much longer than I expected. This had a significant impact on her socialisation so we were glad when it had finished and I could eventually sign her up for behaviour and training classes. When do dogs come into season? Depending on the breed, most un-neutered females come into season every six months. Small breeds can cycle three times a year and the very large breeds, e.g. Great Danes, may only cycle every 12-18 months. When a young bitch comes into season for the first time it can often be a 'silent' season.

To better understand this, you must know that a dog’s heat cycle is divided into four stages – proestrus, estrus, diestrus, and anestrus. Your Labrador dog goes into heat during the first three stages, which are also called “active heat.” During these stages, your Labrador’s body is getting ready for possible pregnancy. As a room full of mostly women, every single female begged to differ. At the moment I have a couple of clients whose bitches have come into the season for the first time and they are asking for advice. It can be a tricky one as each dog deals with it differently but in my opinion it can change behaviours and it can make your dog react differently. Hi to all the experienced Labrador owners. I am a newbie and would like some advice on my 11 month black Labrador. she has just come into her first season last Monday, and we have booked to go away in our caravan for easter, so she will be in the height of her season. questions I ask... shall I cancel holiday and just loose the deposit? Similarly, she insisted on spaying at midpoint between the seasons (they come at roughly 6 monthly intervals) so that the hormones would be 'season-free' at that point which would be best for the dog. My lab came into season at 8 months old and it was really, really obvious that it was coming.

A season lasts approximately 28 days. Roughly 4 weeks. HOWEVER during that season your bitch would only be able to concieve for between two and five days, basically the days when eggs aare released – called ‘Ovulation’. The PROBLEM is that bitches vary HUGELY during a season in when they Ovulate. My GSD bitch was like that too. Every 3 months she would come into season and she would lose all her lovely long coat - due to hormonal changes apparently. I struggled to get my vet to spay her as he wanted to do the operation 3 months after her season, but by then she was back in season! Eventually had to go to a different vet. Dog heat cycle: the stages of a bitch’s season. An un-neutered female dog will usually come into her first season at around 6 months old, although smaller breeds can come into season earlier and larger breeds a while later (sometimes not until they’re 12 months old). From then on, she’ll have a season roughly every 6 months. Dogs come into season between 6 and 15 months of age. Smaller dogs seem to come into season sooner than larger breeds. A females cycle will last from 14 to 21 days - younger dogs usually have shorter cycles. When they come into season they will start to bleed from their vulva.

Left unspayed after the first season, bitches will continue to come into heat around twice a year, or once every six months. The focus of her attentions. When a female dog is in season, she may undergo a range of personality changes for the duration, which can range from subtle to very pronounced. Female dogs have heat cycles, or estrus. During this time, the female is receptive to a male and has the ability to reproduce. There are some times when your female dog, or bitch, has an abnormal heat such as a silent or split heat or does not come into heat at all. Some bitches will cease bleeding when proestrus ends, others will continue to produce a bloody discharge throughout the full oestrus period. Every bitch is different, but in general standing heat (when the female will let the male mate her) is from 7-10 days after the start of bleeding, and lasts for 7-10 days. Understanding your pup’s cycle is incredibly important as is making an informed. Most of the female Labradors go into heat period for every 6 months since their first season. Actually, anywhere between 6 and 8 months is considered very normal. But this is not a norm and many female Labs who went into their first season at an age of 1 year will repeat the cycle yearly only once.
